FAQ
What does DPG do in a silica-filled compound? It binds to the silanol groups on the silica surface, prevents the accelerators from being adsorbed by the silica, and supports the silane reaction. In silica/silane tire treads it is the secondary accelerator alongside the sulfenamide.
Why is an alternative to DPG being sought?Aniline can be released during processing, and it is classified in the EU for reproductive toxicity. For this reason substitution work is under way, especially in Europe.
