FAQ
What is the difference between novolac and resole?Novolac is produced with acid catalyst and excess phenol; it does not cure by itself and needs a hardener such as HMTA. Resole is produced with base catalyst and excess formaldehyde; its reactive methylol groups let it cure by itself with heat.
Which resin is used in brake linings?Usually powder novolac and HMTA. As a binder, it provides heat resistance and friction stability. Novolacs modified with cashew, rubber or boron are used for flexibility and noise control.
