FAQ

What does HMTA do in novolac resin? When heated, it releases formaldehyde and ammonia; it crosslinks the novolac chains and hardens the resin (makes it thermoset).
Why is HMTA used in rubber? It is a methylene donor in resorcinol/HMTA adhesion systems; it increases adhesion between rubber and textile or steel cord. It is also a weak secondary accelerator.
