What it does
The most common thiuram. An ultra-fast secondary accelerator and sulfur donor. In sulfur-free (EV) systems it also works alone as a vulcanizing agent.

FAQ
Does TMTD form nitrosamines, and what is the alternative?Yes. TMTD can form N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) during vulcanization. Nitrosamine-safe substitutes are TBzTD and TiBTD; they give a similar cure rate at a somewhat higher dosage.
Can TMTD be used alone as a vulcanizing agent?Yes. In sulfur-free (EV) systems, 2–3 phr TMTD works alone as both sulfur source and accelerator; it gives vulcanizates with high heat ageing resistance and low fatigue resistance.
